Women's Nine Hole Golf Association (WNHGA)
A statewide women's golf group organized in 1973 to promote the interests of women's nine-hole golf and provide a governing body to maintain standards for all WNHGA groups.
Membership is open to nine-hole golf groups from private and semi-private clubs.
WNHGA currently serves 39 clubs in Northern California and includes 4 areas (Central Valley, East Bay, Peninsula and River Valley). The 4C Niners are part of the East Bay area.
WNHGA sponsors several tournaments each year. Open Days, Team Play, Tournament of Champions (TOC) and Corena Green Junior Golf.
Open Day tournaments are played as a fun 9-hole round of golf at a sister club with prizes.
Team Play tournaments are played as a 9-hole round of golf with 3 flights of team representatives from each club. Teams play against competing clubs in the WNHGA division areas.
Each WNHGA club conducts a Tournament of Champions for the club. The first-place champions for each flight from each club participate in the WNHGA TOC, in October.
WNHGA sponsors an annual tournament to promote young girls golf participation. The tournament includes junior girl golfers from WNHGA member clubs. The tournament awards prizes and scholarships for college to the Corena Green winners.
4C Niners is the women's 9-hole golf group within the Crow Canyon Country Club.
4C Niners are open to all Crow Canyon Country Club women golf members who are interested in playing 9-hole rounds of golf and participating in fun golf events.
4C Niners participate and host several fun events and ways to play 9-hole golf together. Tournaments include the Monthly Tournaments, Team Play and Eclectic. Other fun events include Special Guest Day, Weekly play, Reciprocal play, Invitationals and Beat the Pro.
Monthly tournaments are held on the First Thursday of each month. Tournament play begins at 8:00 or 8:30 AM (PDT or PST) with a shotgun start. Tournament play includes 3 flights and awards are given to the best golfer for the best gross, best net and lowest number of putts, plus chip-ins and most improved golfer. Awards are given out at the lunch following the tournament play.
Team Play tournaments are hosted by WNHGA division clubs. 4C Niners participate in the WNHGA East Bay tournaments.
Eclectic tournaments are played over 3 months with the objective to better your own personal score on each hole. Each player records the best score for each hole on the roster in the locker room. Awards are presented to the player with the best net score for each flight.
Scores for each round of 9-hole golf are entered into the US Golf Association (USGA) for Northern California by Golfer Handicap Information Network (GHIN)
Golf Handicap Index is a universal measure for all players' abilities. Handicap is determined by the gross scores posted for a golfer, using the best 8 scores.
Scores for each round are posted into the USGA GHIN site for each golfer. A player must have a GHIN number to post their gross scores. Monthly Tournament scores will be posted by the Pro-Shop for each golfer. Other than Tournament, players usually post their own scores unless otherwise directed
A golfer can post their gross score (total number of strokes) for a round in the USGA GHIN app by selecting the course, tees and number of holes. Or a golfer can post the gross score hole-by-hole, by selecting the course, tees and number of holes.
A golfer's gross score is posted with one exception: when a player exceeds the maximum number of strokes on a particular hole, the adjusted maximum is posted. The adjusted maximum is par plus double bogey plus pops.
A golfer's net score is determined by the gross score minus the number of pops, using the handicap index for the golfer.
Pops are based on the handicap index for each golfer to create a score basis to par. Pops appear on the Monthly Tournament scorecards to represent the golfer's handicap allowance for the round.
